Ambassador V. Afyan's visit to Chennai (Madras)

On 30 March 2024, the Ambassador of Armenia to India, Vahagn Afyan, accompanied by the First Secretary of the Embassy, Vladimir Poghosyan, visited the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Armenia in Chennai (formerly Madras). The Ambassador familiarized himself with the office's facilities and engaged in discussions with Honorary Consul Shivkumar Eashwaran, aiming to enhance operations and strategize future initiatives.

During the meeting with the staff of the Honorary Consulate, the Ambassador highlighted Armenia's longstanding presence in the city and underscored the significance of undertaking projects to bolster Armenian-Indian collaboration, particularly in trade, economic, cultural and educational realms.

On March 31, in observance of the Holy Resurrection, the Ambassador of Armenia visited the St. Mary Armenian Church in Chennai to pay homage to the graves of Shahamir Shahamiryan, the author of the first constitutional draft of Armenian reality "The Glorious Ambush", and Harutyun Shmavonyan, the publisher of the first Armenian printed periodical "Azdarar”. During this visit, the Ambassador also engaged in discussions with the Indian custodian of the church, with Honorary Consul Eashwaran in attendance.
